Are You A Man? Hair Loss Is Not Inevitable.
by Peter Albertson

I’m glad to be the bearer of good news if you’re a man. Hair loss is not inevitable. Over recent years the reasons for male pattern baldness have been established by science and there are now some outstanding baldness treatments approved by the FDA. But remember if you’re a man, hair loss can be treated but baldness cannot be treated.

Male pattern baldness is very common in men. For men around the ages of 20 to 45, 95% of thinning hair problems are the result of male pattern baldness. Pattern baldness in men has a technical name of androgenic alopecia and is inherited from members of your family who came before you.

It has been known for a long time that male pattern baldness was genetic but the actual mechanism that cause to hair loss was not understood. Until this mechanism was understood it was not possible to develop successful treatment for male hair loss.

The mechanism behind male hair loss which is now understood is this. Those who are genetically predisposed have the male hormone testosterone converted in their bodies into a 2nd hormone called Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, by enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. It is the DHT that causes the hair loss.

The way this happens is that the DHT gathers around the base of the hair follicle and effectively strangles the follicle. By preventing the flow of essential hair nutrients to their hair follicle DHT causes hair follicles to weaken, to reproduce less successfully and for the hair strands to thin.

It’s well known that everyone loses hair everyday. The average person loses around 10,000 hairs everyday which are normally replaced. But those who are genetically predisposed to an excess of DHT find that more hair dies and less grows to replace it resulting in a slow thinning the hair and the development of a bald spot.

Once the mechanism by which this occurred was fully known it was impossible to produce a treatment. One treatment alone has been approved by the FDA has a DHT treatment and it goes by the name of minoxidil. Minoxidil is available under a range of product names. However not all minoxidil products work the same.

I mentioned the importance of nutrients to the health of hair follicles and the fact that DHT blocks most of the nutrients from getting into the hair follicle. Minoxidil stops DHT from blocking the entry of the nutrients however if there are not sufficient optimum hair nutrients available is not a sufficient treatment.

The best hair loss treatment operates by blocking the effects of DHT by means of the use of minoxidil and at the same time providing the entire range of essential hair nutrients by means of oral supplements. This is a two-pronged approach and is far more effective than the use of minoxidil on its own.

Remember if you’re a man hair loss can be reversed however you cannot grow hair on a head that is already bald. The best hair loss treatments work well but you need to act fast.
