Herpes can be of two types, the HSV1 which appears as cold sores in the nose and mouth area and HSV2 which targets the genital parts. Herpes spreads through unprotected sexual contact meaning if you come into contact with a herpes positive person and have unprotected sexual intercourse then there are very high chances that you could be infected.

The most widely accepted form of treatment for herpes is a groups of drugs called acyclovir. Herbs to Treat Herpes Viruses

Herpes viral infections are probably the most common viruses to affect the population. It is believed that between 80 and 98 percent of the population carries Herpes simplex virus 1, the strain of the virus that causes cold sores and fever blisters. This is also the strain responsible for ocular herpes and a life threatening condition called herpatic encephalitis, making HSV-1, according to some researchers the more deadly of the herpes strains because it has a mortality rate attached to it. Strangely enough it is also the most social acceptable strain of the virus.

Genital Herpes is caused by Herpes simplex virus 2, and is stored in a different place in the nerve cells than HSV-1 (HSV- 1 is stored in the neck, HSV-2 is stored in the base of the spine). Genital herpes is the most common STI, affecting a recorded 25% of the population but many researchers now believe due to the often asymptomatic transmission of the virus that the numbers are actually just as high as HSV-1. The HSV-2 virus, while not life threatening, is often more psychologically and emotionally damaging due to the isolation and misguided stigma attached to it. Read more…

While in America science says there is currently no cure for herpes, this is the subject of some controversy as there are those in the alternative medicine and natural medicine communities that insist that there is a cure for herpes in other countries around the world, but in America due to the colossal nature of the pharmaceutical industry, it is only good business for doctors and drug companies to just keep putting a band-aid on the problem but not actually fix it, and the topic is a further thorn in the side of the drug companies because most alternative cures are naturally occurring meaning that they cannot be patented and profited from.
