Appreciate Your Nursing Assistants
Because nursing assistants perform up to 80% of the client care for your organization, they have the power to make or break the reputation of your company. And, as they go about their daily work, nursing assistants serve as your eyes and ears with your patients. Yet, consider these startling facts:
* Nearly half of the people who quit their jobs do so because they don’t feel appreciated by their supervisors.
* Praise is the least expensive-and least used-management tool.
* Many supervisors say they don’t praise their employees because they are too busy.
Health care supervisors are a very busy group. Recent changes in the health care arena have meant that there are fewer people to do more work. And, a lot of that work falls on the shoulders of the supervisor. However, taking time to notice-and recognize-good behavior among your employees will make your job easier in the long run.

Review Your Social Security Statement
“Social Security is going to run out in the next twenty years.” “Social Security is the biggest ponzi scheme ever created.” “Social Security is something no one needs to think about since it doesn’t really affect us.”
Chances are, most of you have heard of at least one of these statements in your lifetime. In fact, you probably agree with at least some of those broad statements. Regardless of what any of your views are, one thing is clear, whether you like it or not 6.2% of every paycheck you receive while working will go directly into the OASDI program. Over time, the amount that is taken out of your paychecks add up to thousands of dollars. Especially in a prolonged recession, because so much money is at stake it is imperative that we pay attention to what our money is going into. Like any major investment, everyone should know what they are investing in and what the estimated end result will be. This article will answer what a Social Security Statement is, who can receive it, what the Social Security Administration (SSA) says about it, and specifically, what you should not forget to think about when reviewing your Statement.
Who receives a Statement?
SSA will automatically send you a pamphlet entitled, “Social Security Statement” several months before your birthday each year if you are at least 25 years old. If you have not received your statement and want one, you can request one from SSA and they will mail one out to you.

How to Obtain Free Health Care
This is not an article about how to get free health care insurance or insurance coverage. This article addresses how to get free medical care in certain circumstances.
Hospital Care
If you are ever in need to hospital care, expect even a short stay to cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you do not have health insurance coverage, just a stay of a few days can bring you financial ruin and bankruptcy. If you need hospital care and do not have insurance or cannot afford to pay for the care, contact the Hill-Burton Hotline at 800-638-0742. Through this program, hundreds of hospitals and care facilities participate in a no-cost program for providing health care services to those who cannot pay.
In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 200 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care. Read more…

Would Partnering With Your Patients Increase Patient Compliance?
When patients are asked what their priorities are in their medical care, they state that they want a physician and office that will partner with them in their medical journey. Patients want to feel that they are on the same team as their physician and medical office and that, together, they will address medical issues and concerns as they arise.
The primary need that the patient has is that of certainty. While we know there are no guarantees in anyone’s medical care or treatment, the patient needs to feel certain of the relationship we are promising them when they are in our medical offices. The needs of the patient are certainly clinical, yet the emotional need to connect with us and form a relationship overrides everything else. Once that relationship is securely established, they will trust us enough to follow our directives more readily.
In order to truly partner with your patients, there needs to be a transparency in your office about the responsibilities on both the medical office and that of the patient. When the medical office states their promises of patient care and follow up, the patient will be less likely to have unrealistic expectations as to how their care and concerns are treated.
When the patient fully understand up front what their responsibilities are in their care, they will feel more involved in their care, not that care is “done to them.” These responsibilities on both ends should involve the full spectrum of issues involved with care – scheduling of appointments, time frames for call backs based on urgency, payment issues, explanations of treatment and diagnosis, treatment compliance, and payment. Healthy Lifestyles and Longevity
Foresight is something generally lacking in most people’s lives. We live in a society predicated on instant gratification. Fast food restaurants are a good example. When hungry, just go to the drive-thru and eat to your heart’s content. Two weeks later, you are left to wonder how the weighing scale can possibly register an increase of 5 pounds.
The opposite of this is deferred gratification. Where instant gratification is geared towards getting something as soon as possible, deferred gratification is the ability to wait patiently in order to get a greater reward. This is also known by more common terms such as will power and self control.
The Marshmallow Experiment is a good example of instant vs. deferred gratification. In this test (conducted during the 1960s), subjects composed of four-year olds were given a marshmallow. They were told that they could eat the marshmallow now, but if they waited for an unspecified amount of time, they would receive another marshmallow. Researchers later followed the progress of these children and discovered that, on average, those who waited to get another marshmallow had higher SAT scores. Read more…

Samavedana – A Hope, Help, and Healing Hand
In last few decades, medical science has seen enormous advancement in terms of diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation techniques. But unfortunately it has increased the overall cost of the medical facilities, making it unreachable to a majority of the population. Unlike other services, medical service can neither be substituted nor neglected when the need occurs. In developing countries, where many families find it difficult to get enough food for the day, how can they afford expenses of the medical treatment if their earning member needs an urgent operation or a costly treatment regimen? This question has haunted me for a very long time, since I got admission to the medical school. But recently, I came across an organization called Samavedana that not only provides hope to poor and needy patients, but in other way supports the existence of the entire family, as well.
Internationally acclaimed neurosurgeon Dr Charudatta Apte and his associated have been working hard for last six years to provide not just financial assistance to the poor and needy patients, but at times free medical treatment as well. The group that started with an aim of providing neurological treatment to the poor, has now expanded its activities to cardiology, hematology, pediatrics and ophthalmology, through a team of around 30 doctors and more than 2600 donors. Trends of the Health Care Industry
The healthcare industry may be showing an upward growth in countries across the world but several areas are still not being taken care of that will enhance the provision of health care to the common people. Almost 1/5th of the worldwide sale of healthcare is comprised by countries like Russia, Mexico, India, Indonesia, China and Turkey.
It was in the 1990s that the heath care cost started increasing. The 42 million mark was attained by Americans who did not have any health insurance or health care coverage. In the years to come, it is being predicted that considerable stress will be imposed on the US health care sector due to the rise in number of old sick people. In the near future, number of healthcare programs and insurance coverage will also witness some increase. The escalation in the medical plans in 2006 was 42.5 million and this might increase to 70.2 million by the year 2025. Read more…
