Imaginative Meditation- Personalizing Your Very Own Meditation Process

Making the meditation yours can actually make the difference between a working meditation and one that just do not work at all. I knew of one person who liked looking at a snow-filled television set while listening to his favorite music. He maintained that it always put him in a trance so he used this as a method and got excellent results.

You really never can tell what will work for you. The trick is to find something that naturally cues your mind to go into that natural place in between sleep and wakeful consciousness. Half in, half out so to speak. Yet, to do it intentionally is the key and the difficulty. Bringing you to the meditation, rather than try to bring meditation to you.

I have heard a myriad of metaphors or analogies all geared towards explaining this very process. The best is the rock climbing illustration.

Rock climbing is a fast growing sport that anyone can do. In fact, it makes no difference how big and strong you are because some of the best rock climbers are little people. When climbing a mountain one would assume the big strong man would be best fit to the task. This is NOT the case.

All too often the ‘body-builder’ type will try his hardest to pull the mountain down to him, while the little girl already half way up the rock is maneuvering herself upwards. It is a simple, little twist in the ribbon of perspective, which makes all the difference in the world.

Meditation is the same in this regard. The first thing I always say to anyone asking me about it is always the same. Stop trying so hard. It is not really all that difficult if you know what to look for. Just find out what your mind reacts to naturally and refurnish the exact same set of circumstances.

Experiment with your surroundings and remember that unconventional methods tend to work great. Some people react well to scent, while others sight or sound. Its a good idea to begin with your senses. Be observant of how your brain reacts to whatever form of stimulation you choose. Results are what matter.

Their is simply no substitute for direct experience. People sometimes get too caught up in what others do and say in regards to meditation. There is nothing set in stone, so be creative and imaginative meditation will be more personalized to your needs.

Please try to think out of the box if you are having trouble with meditation. Meditation offers too much in the way of reducing stress and anxiety. It can help you achieve a healthy state of mind and that is priceless. If staring at a blank television set with soft music in the background helps your brain to settle down then by all means.

There are so many things to consider when you delve in to meditation and other mental practices. The most important are finding out what works specifically for you.

Creative visualization has been proven, it just plain works! Leading sports icons use it, football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, Olympic trainers, people of all walks of life use it to great effects. Meditation when done properly can help you achieve any goal. Imaginative Meditation IS creative visualization to a more advanced extent.

For those interested in just how far Meditation can take you check out http://astraldevelopment.blogspot.com/ where I outline many things that tie in to The Astral Plane.

Meditation has been around for thousands of years and for that length of time many wiser races have realized the importance of this practice. It’s only in the last 100 years or less that the “modern” Western world has started to embrace meditation as an important part of daily life. We rarely give credit to the power of the mind and how important control of our mental state is to a happy, healthy and successful lifestyle.

Modern life has become more stressful than anyone could ever have imagined. Your job, your family and that never ending To-Do list can just weigh you down and make your mind feel very “crowded”. According to Psychology Today neuroscientists have found that the brain waves of people who practice meditation show that they are healthier physically and mentally than people who don’t meditate.

Meditation can reduce anxiety and in turn this reduces stress. It allows you to feel more in control of your life. People who have practiced meditation for several years will tell you how much happier their lives are – the ultimate goal of meditation being to actually become enlightened (yup just like the Buddha).

The age of the Internet makes it so easy for you to learn about yoga. For example, http://www.healthandyoga.com says that in addition to improving your general health meditation can actually increase blood flow to different parts of your body and can help your body at a cellular level.

Just a few of the health benefits of meditation include lower oxygen consumption, lower respiratory rate, slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, reduced anxiety, decreased muscle tension and headaches, and increased serotonin production which influences mood and behavior. Lower levels of this neurotransmitter are associated with depression, obesity, insomnia, and headaches.

Benefits of meditation also include enhanced immune system function; research has shown that the activity of natural killer cells increased with routine meditation, which kills bacteria and cancer cells, reducing activity of viruses and emotional distress.

With so many benefits it’s hard to understand why every person on this planet doesn’t meditate every single day. Finding those moments of calm in the middle of all the chaos is obviously very important – we’re rarely still long enough to think about anything clearly.

You don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment to get started on your path to self awareness and enlightenment, just a nice quiet place when you can relax and focus inward on eliminating negative energies and bringing forth everything positive instead. Incense and relaxing music add to the perfect ambience in a quiet dark comfortable space, where you can leave all the baggage behind and get back in touch with the real you.

Not all of the benefits of meditation can truly be explained, as they are different for everyone on various levels. Give it a try, discover yourself – I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Meditation is useful in so many areas of life but one of the main benefits is that it can lower your stress levels. Lower stress levels will mean fewer migraine headache problems too. Learn more about migraine headaches and how you can treat them here -> http://www.migraineheadachereport.com.

Consciousness is our knowing state, but where does it ultimately comes from? If you can observe consciousness then you are out of it and transcending it, so consciousness itself must have a base. Let’s find it through logic.

First, there is an image in consciousness that resembles an object that comes to us through the five senses. That’s what the five sense consciousness do for us. They give us these signless images, these non-labeled images that appear in consciousness.

There is next a function of consciousness that grasps those images, that turns the images into discrete particular things to be experienced with particular properties and attributes. Otherwise every object would be like every other object to you, and every sense field like every other sense field. This is done by a part of consciousness which we typically call the “mind.” It gives names and properties to things. Basically it’s responsible for naming and labeling.

Next there is the knowing part of consciousness we call the “apparent knower” and take as our assumed silent self. This is the self-reflexive knower, the source of intellectualization, the pivot by which you judge and know things. This is the self-authenticating aspect of consciousness we call the self or knower.

This knower is what knows the thoughts. When there is a thought there is consciousness, but when consciousness is empty, what’s there? You’re not annihilated or extinct or non-existent because obviously the world still goes on. You might think there is a gap within consciousness, but somehow it arises again. There is always a continuity of awareness behind, above, beyond or transcending consciousness, however you want to word it. It is awareness that is there when consciousness is empty without any object.

We can call this awareness “primordial awareness” or “ready awareness” or the “potential for consciousness” or “presence,” which are all just a way of saying is-ness or be-ingness without the thoughts of being so.

These three parts – the reflected images of perception, the descriptive grabbing of discrimination, and the knowing must all share the same base or supporting substance otherwise they could not connect, hence they are all ultimately parts or functions of the same consciousness. All three are one, they are the same thing talked about in three parts because of the different characteristics or functions being performed. Yet they must all be united as one otherwise they could not interact with one another.

Now if you think deeply, you’ll realize that the seventh consciousness, or self-authenticating nature, has to have something beyond it, something that authenticates it, something transcending it. There has to be something which stands behind or transcends the knowing aspect of the inner I. In technical terms, there is something that authenticates the apparent self, that stands behind knowingness. If there was not something behind knowingness, knowingness could NOT arise. There must be something that gives rise to consciousness. There must be something aprior that corroborates conscious knowing.

“Corroborates” means helps consciousness arise. Consciousness does not arise just by itself, does it? If it did then rocks would be conscious. Consciousness or knowingness arises according to conditions, but before those conditions or in-between conditions so where there is conditionlessness, is there not something responsible as a continuous substratum? What is that substratum that authenticates consciousness by accepting its results? What is it that stands behind knowingness?

When you wake up after sleeping, before your various thoughts arise in the morning the knowingness potential of consciousness is already there. Prior to that knowingness is a base awareness from which that knowing consciousness itself arises. It is the essence that maintains the potential of consciousness when it is dormant. It has to be there even when you are in deep dreamless sleep, otherwise there would be no continuity upon waking or when passing through any stages of consciousness.

Who is it that has these experiences other than That which is prior to these experiences? That is the base, the unconditioned one, the one that never changes. It is what “corroborates” or “evidences” or “authenticates” the knowing function of consciousness.

Everything arises upon this base consciousness that’s empty of forms because it’s conditionless, but which holds ceaseless potential. In Buddhism it’s called the “container” or “receptacle” or “storehouse consciousness” that can contain all the various manifestations of the mind.

This base consciousness “owns” all its states by its constantly evidencing or authenticating nature. As the base, all states arise within it, or of it, or through it – however you wish to word it. All states of mind are It because it is the container, the substratum of and by which they arise. They form out of its essence, substance or being. All consciousness is therefore This One Thing. This is what is creation or manifestation in its utmost sense. It is all, in fundamental essence, the base consciousness. Since you can only ever experience consciousness, this is all you are ever experiencing.

You know that forms and phenomena, appearances, sounds, tastes, touch, consciousness, thoughts, feelings, emotions, awareness, perception all arise within your mind. The container consciousness is the common essence behind them all. Pristine, still, nonmoving… it is what they are composed of in their basest sense. Matter and mind share the same common source, and this one thing is the common essence beneath everything. This is all you ever experience, for even the thought of being an ego or identity is just This Thing. For absolutely everything is the Source, the ground state, the fundamental essence, the absolute nature, the God-stuff of which everything is.

As the base consciousness, it’s there before discriminative consciousness comes into being. It is there before knowingness comes into being. It is there before “I-amness” or knowing of beingness arises. It is there because it is the base. It is the body of all its states and essence of all its states.

It is the supporting base behind the apparent knower, knowing and the known. It is formless and pure, but always ready to be born as some manifestation. But that manifestation is unreal and undependable because it cannot stay. Only because what arises is unreal does it abstain from conflicting with the real, which is the nonmoving ever present.

If you chop an apparent manifestation down by time, in the smallest unit of time there is no movement but changelessness. If you slice down any form into the tiniest piece possible, as you get smaller and smaller past atoms you only find empty space. If you chop it down by consciousness, in the smallest slice you only find no knowingness. If you cut energy down into the tiniest section, you find no impurity. So the ultimate ground state may seem to give birth to a conventional reality or provisional existence, but this provisional existence is an illusion lacking substance and true reality.

This common base is the ultimate essence of All because everything we call the universe, creation, the world, Thusness, “all reality” or manifestation arises upon this container. When we find This One, as Christians we say we’ve attained union with God’s nature because the characteristics match. This is union with God because beyond this is nothing more. We call finding this one “God” because it has all the attributes of purity, changelessness, infinity, eternity, timelessness and so forth we previously discussed and because all phenomena arise because of it. This is It, this is what you are seeking on the road of religious practice. It is not a person, nor being, nor life. It is not something represented on the ceiling of the Sistene Chapel or in any painting, or image, or mental scenario, or thought or concept or feeling. It transcends all that. You have arrived when you accomplish this realization.

If you think there is something else either than This One you are wrong. Everything you know you know because of This One and through This One. If there was something else, its functions would have to be known to us. But everything we know are the functions of This One. Everything that arises is Its functions.

If you say there was something else, then that one would non- exist. You’d be saying there was something else whose functions we could not know, in which case it would not be anything existent to us. There cannot be two ultimate essential natures that are both pure, infinite, eternal, changeless. If they were both infinite they would have to collide or interpenetrate, and then it would not be possible that they were both pure or changeless. So this is the utmost thing you can reach whose effects can be known. There are not two ultimate things. There is only one transcendent one, and this is It. This is how you find God, which is by arriving at what transcends consciousness.

How often have you felt forgetful or seem to have lost your short-term memory? You know the feeling I’m talking about. You start losing your attention, feel spacey, and there’s a problem with focusing on the tasks at hand.

Did you know that meditation can help you cut down on “brain fog” like this? If you learn how to meditate, over time, it helps you to clear your mind and cut down on states of mental stupor. Because meditation involves learning to let go of the thoughts that run around in your head, with practice you can learn to let go of the state of unclarity that arises in your mind that meditators call dullness, brain fog or stupor. Naturally it takes some practice order to achieve this ability with proficiency. Nevertheless, it’s well worth the effort because that’s the purpose of meditation in the first place.

The cardinal rule of meditation is to let go of your thoughts, but to maintain awareness of everything that goes on in your mind while letting your mind give rise to thoughts freely. When people start to watch their mind this way, at first the mind starts to get clearer and they reach a realm of mental clarity. But after this initial spurt of progress, it actually seems like their mind is becoming busier than ever before and more confused than they’ve ever known it to be. This is not actually a step backwards but a step forwards, and people who think they are retrogressing when this happens are actually misinterpreting their stage of achievement.

What is actually happening at this point in time is that the mind is becoming clearer and you are just beginning to see its inner workings for the very first time, but you mistake that clarity for extra busyness. For instance, meditation teachers often compare our wandering “monkey mind” with a glass of muddy water. As the thoughts in the mind begin to dissipate and clarity arises, that’s the same thing as the particles of dust in the muddy water beginning to settle. Only when the dust particles begin to settle can an individual see the separate particles clearly.

That’s what’s happening when you first begin to notice all the wandering thoughts in your head. If you keep meditating with practice and determination, soon these wandering thoughts will settle and your mind will reach a state of clarity that it has never before experienced.

So how can this help you with brain fog?

Sometimes nutritional deficiencies cause brain fog such as low levels of vitamin B12, magnesium or amino acids. If you drink too many artificial sweeteners this can also cause brain fog too. If there is an overgrowth of Candida in the gut, this is also often a major culprit responsible for brain fog. In fact, that is probably the number one cause of mental fogginess other than eating foods to which you are allergic. Caprylic acid, candisol, oregacillin and other supplements can help get rid of the Candida problem for good.

Let’s put these causes aside, though of course you must investigate them and others. If we rule out these various causes and attack the problem from the basis of mind, to combat mental unclarity you need to let go of your thoughts while watching your mind and in time it will become clearer with practice. This is called vipassana in some meditation schools, or “cessation and watching.” You simply observe your mind, and in time its busy nature ceases, and “brain fog” along with it. You just detach from it when it arises, and maintain clarity until it passes.

That’s how meditation can help free you from confusion for good. Want to learn how to meditate? Go visit MeditationExpert.com for free lessons.

Have you ever purchased a self-help book and finished reading it and then expect it to work, but months go by and nothing happens. You always find yourself in the same situation as before you bought that book. The book gave you theory knowledge only; it did not show you the first steps to take to make the book work. It also did not tell you, you are the only one that can make changes in your life by taking specific actions.

Visualization is great if you can put it into action. There are many self help books that teach you how to visualize your wants or needs but what is lacking in those books is that initial step or action to help you put your desires into motion. Just imagine if we could make this happen or make things appear by sitting alone in a room and closing your eyes to visualize your desires, how fortunate we all would be. We would not need to get out of home to go to work. But reality is that it doesn’t happen that way.

I am not saying that I don’t believe in visualization, further from that, I totally believe in visualizing but I think that there are some actions to take to make those desires or dreams come true.
Making changes in your life is not easy but surely not that difficult and certainly not fast. Getting everything you wish for might not even be the best for you. I think that everything will happen when we visualize them but not necessarily getting exactly what we want and when we want it, again I am not saying you shouldn’t get what you want but hopefully you trust in a higher power or something bigger than all of us to give you exactly what you want or even to help you get what you need.

Visualization really works and my biggest advice I can give you is that make sure that what you think you desire is really what you want. Keeping things real is what I am basically saying. What if you are visualizing that you want twenty thousand dollars deposited in your bank account by next month, and your earn on your current job about two thousand a month. Well I think there is something wrong with this picture, maybe you should visualize in winning the lottery, and then you might have a better chance in getting that money.

Put visualization to work for you by keeping a perspective in reality. Work out a plan on how you can make the twenty thousand dollars a month and forward with action; then visualize it to work for you. Don’t ever give up on your dreams but make plans to make them happen. Work on your plans and keep those eyes wide open.

Angel S. mission is to help people understand the steps to take to help them make their dreams come true. The author is also interested in http://www.birdwatchingbinocular.com to relax and help to visualize.

Stress is the most commonly used term for mental pressure. Stress can be any time, any where and with any one. While following our hectic schedules it becomes an impossible task to maintain good and healthy life styles. Although many books, magazines, psychologists, health experts and physical trainers and other sources give many ways to reduce stress, one point that everyone agrees to is meditation.

Meditation helps us to make our life more smooth and relaxed. Meditation helps us to fight a number of health problems apart from stress. Meditation can be done in the morning, as well as in the evening, preferably before a heavy meal. It is also true that you cannot get relief from stress just by meditating for a single day. It takes time for the beginners to meditate. You need to learn meditations first from an expert trainer. You need to know how to concentrate. Your mind should be focused at one particular point. These are a few points that a beginner must take into consideration. There are other methods of meditation also. There are many meditation training centers that train you how to meditate and gives lessons on meditation.

Meditation should be done in a calm environment. Now days a new thing has been introduced in corporate houses and recreation destinations. There are meditation rooms in work places and schools for meditation. Ten minutes of meditation helps you in reducing eighty percent of your daily stress. Students during their exam time became stressed and meditation helps a lot in reducing the stress of the students. Not only children, meditation is equally beneficial for adults and the old aged ones also.

Meditation gives deep relaxation in our body. It helps us to breath easily, keep the blood pressure and body temperature normal and also very helpful for heart patients. Meditation coordinates the brain waves and helps us to concentrate properly and enhances our learning process. Meditation can bring to you a lot of satisfaction and pleasure. You can start enjoying your life and can be pleased after doing meditation.

If you do meditation properly and daily for ten to twenty minutes you will definitely able to fire stress from your life.

Many of us experience a meditative state without realizing it. For example, times when we are sitting outdoors, perhaps beside a stream or in a peaceful backyard, when everything seems to drop away, including all our thoughts or concerns, and we enter into a deeply peaceful stillness… an inner quite. In this quite, we feel as if we have dissolved and are no longer something separate or individual, but have merged with everything around us. We become the trees, the birds, and the water – there is no separation, no difference between us.

This state is very joyful; however, it does not necessarily last! Our minds and senses are so powerful that we being distract by every-day concerns, pulled into our worries or personal dramas, our habits or confusion, until this feeling of inner quite seems very far away. However, the more we practice meditation, for example, specific techniques to bring purposefully the mind into a focused and still place, the more we experience an inner quite.

The practice of meditation, which may include contemplation and prayer, is an aspect of systems. If we are too externalized and busy with thoughts, we are unable to perceive the beauty around us or to receive divine inspiration. But meditation is not limited to religious practice; it also has far-reaching implications in our fast – moving and highly demanding world for bringing balance and harmony to our lives.

When they first begin meditating, many people describe feeling as if they have “come home.” In entering this quite ‘inner space,’ you connect with yourself in a more genuine way. It feels familiar, like a place you have been away from for some time. You realize how most of your time is spent distracted, and how little you really know yourself inside.

Meditation is not a goal in itself. It is not something you try to achieve. Rather, it is an awakened way of being. The meditative mind is one that is balanced, clear, and at ease, focused entirely on what is happening in this moment.

The purpose of practicing meditation is to bring about the transformation of our perception of ourselves and our world – from that of skepticism and doubt to acceptance and kindness – so we become more awake. This happens as stress, confusion, and mental chatter lessen, understanding deepens, and compassion and inner peacefulness emerge. However, this is not something to read about – it is in the experience of meditation that you will find these words begin to make sense and bear fruit.

Just Being Meditation.
Meditation brings you into the present moment – into being here, now. To begin your exploration of the meditative state, start with practice of just being for 10-30 minutes.

Let us say you see a red apple, which is all that your eye does for you. It just brings you the sensory image of an apple by somehow translating the outside world into an image for consciousness, but it doesn’t provide the concept that the image is an apple nor does it make the word “apple” arise in the mind. That comes later. It somehow just gives you a mental picture image of a red apple by somehow reflecting the outside world and transmitting that reflection into consciousness. That’s what the reflective aspect of consciousness does – it gives you the shape, colors, smell, feel of the apple by reflecting the outside world and making it into a consciousness image.

Therefore, what you actually see when you see an apple is not the apple but consciousness. You are just seeing, perceiving, witnessing or experiencing an image in consciousness, but not the apple itself. The image in the mind doesn’t give you any other intelligence beyond the image, so your eyes, ears, tongue, body and nose just give you all these mental impressions which Buddhism calls images or signs. Your five senses are like five soldiers who always make an accurate report to headquarters without adding any commentary or interpretation at all. They just give you all these simultaneous images. But who interprets them?

Without being able to grasp those images and discriminate them out into parts with borders, properties or characteristics, you don’t have a clue that there is something there with a specific meaning as a specific object with specific attributes and characteristics. In other words, besides reflecting the outside world into something internal, consciousness has a function of discrimination that makes this one set of pictures quite different in meaning from another set, otherwise they’d all appear to you as the same.

Okay, let’s take our tasty apple again. A camera reflects a picture of an apple through its lens to its mirror just like an image passing through our cornea onto our retina, but without a commenting mind the camera lens or mirror just holds an image there. That camera image of the apple is something entirely unintelligible to the camera and which is the same as any other image because there’s no mind to discriminate any differences. Hence you can see what the reflective consciousness does, and what the discriminative consciousness does. One aspect of consciousness gives us images, another gives us meaning.

A mirror instantaneously and indiscriminately reflects in itself forms and images, and in the same way our sense organs provide consciousness with just such a nameless set of reflections or impressions. If you don’t have a discriminating mind, then the images on your left side will look like the images to your right. You could not tell them apart. Only discrimination can make them different from each other. This means there is a portion of consciousness that functions to grab individual objects out of the chaos to make sense of them, which we call the function of discrimination. The objective world is known to us or distinguished by this part of consciousness which distinctly determines individual forms, phenomena or appearances… and by those words I mean sights, sounds, physical sensations, smells and so forth.

You thus have a discriminative consciousness that takes this palate of indecipherable sense impressions and wraps them with words, names and labels from memory to make them into something recognizable. Discrimination, which is a function of consciousness, grasps phenomena out of the indistinguishable sensory consciousnesses, and in this grasping of phenomena discriminates an objective world. It gives you an objective field of separate objects with independent characteristics. It makes judgments or personal reasonings about this world, and has been doing so seemingly forever.

That is the first part of what Shakyamuni Buddha taught about consciousness. You have a current state of consciousness and it has two aspects. Current consciousness is made up of both a reflective and discriminative consciousness. Consciousness also has an ultimate base, and through meditation you can trace consciousness to this ultimate root. That is what Buddhist meditation is all about as its fundamental purpose.

MeditationExpert.com is one of the few meditation portals on the web that not only teaches meditation, but offers insight into the divisions of consciousness worked out by ancient cultivation schools.

Having inner strength is very important in order to face any negative energies or thoughts. The inner strength derived from deep inside prevents you from getting swayed by undesirable circumstances in life. You become self-confident and learn to practice self-control. But how does that happen? Meditation is a great way of developing your inner strength.

Meditation is defined as a state in which an individual’s attention is concentrated on a particular object of thought. In such a state, the attention of the individual is turned inwards to a single point. It is often acknowledged as a crucial element of religions practiced across Asia, such as Hinduism and Buddhism in countries such as India, China, Sri Lanka, Indonesia etc. Meditation has been practiced by these religions for more than 5,000 years.

Meditation teaches you a lot of things. It can help in generating thoughts that are below the threshold of conscious perception. The unconscious mind holds a stock of information and details that help in the formulation of other key skills. In order to be able to meditate perfectly, one has to focus on creating a balance between the subconscious mind and the inner self.

As the main objective of meditation is to bring the conscious mind and the subliminal mind together, it further works to give us strength and an insight. The coming together of the conscious mind with the subliminal mind is possible when the thoughts about positive attitude are evoked. It helps our minds realize the information that may be used for making desirable changes in our life and improving its overall quality.

Meditation develops inner strength because it programs your brain and the inner mind to stop getting any negative thoughts. This clears the way for positive thoughts. In meditation, you learn to do this again and again till you get it right.

The other crucial way in which meditation acts to build inner strength is by removing the energy blockages. If one wishes to end a mental turmoil, he or she has to understand the underlying reason behind it. When you meditate about the causes behind your suffering, you tend to gradually overcome them. Meditation is an energy enhancement technique that helps in removing any energy blockages.

Through meditation, one can clear oneself of all the negative thoughts and a lack of confidence. This would help in creating positive vibes not only for yourself but also for people around you.

Meditation is an art of positive energy that requires a lot of your time, effort and practicing skills. It will not change your life overnight. You have to practice it regularly with concentration for many years. Give your effort, time and patience to the meditation process and it can help you derive your inner strength.

Meditation positions can do more harm than good. Many magazine articles will show pictures of esoteric yogis holding intricate hand gestures while sitting in bliss. This can be a turn-off, since perhaps you aren’t limber or maybe you are at work and don’t want to be started at while busting out a full lotus. Meditation is an internal experience. The goal of your meditation position should be relaxation.

The lesson to learn is that direct experience is the best guide. It is a lesson that will guide you well in all of your meditation adventures. So follow this simple process and you will be on your way to discovering meditation’s benefits without any complications from your posture.

The trick is to practice the same meditation in each possible meditation position. This way you can truly gauge the effectiveness or discomfort. We are all made differently so only through your reaction to the meditation while in the different postures can you find your best one.

Try out your meditation technique in these meditation positions:

1. Sit upright in your chair with feet on floor.
2. Sit upright in your chair with legs up and feet crossed under butt.
3. Sit on floor with legs crossed Indian-style.
4. Sit on floor with legs un-crossed.
5. Sit on floor with legs in half-lotus.
6. Sit on floor with legs in full-lotus.
7. Sit on floor with cushion under butt (preferably a zafu).
8. Lay on back in bed with palms facing up.
9. Lay on back in bed with palms facing down.
10. Sit on floor with legs straight out and back up against bed.

As you can see, there is a wide variety of meditation positions. My personal preferences are numbers 2 and 8, although on occasion I will practice in 1, 3, or 7. But it doesn’t matter what works for me, what matters is what enables you to have the deepest meditation session possible.

Check in with yourself after meditation with each position and ask yourself the following questions:

1. How does my body feel now?
2. Did I notice my body after a few minutes of meditation?
3. How deep was the meditation?

The ultimate measure of any meditation position is the quality of the practice you experience. Follow this article’s simple process. Meditation is an internal journey that does not need external complications.
