You are advised that if you are pregnant to not use a heating pad or electric blanket because of the risk of Electro-magnetic shock. It could very well harm your unborn baby, especially in the first trimester.</p>
<p>Make sure you don&#8217;t leave your blanket on high while you are asleep because it could cause a fire. Keep it on low while you are asleep and always turn it off before you leave your house. If you need to warm up your bed, turn it on but do not leave your house with it on because it can start a fire.<span id="more-1949"></span></p>
<p>Electric blankets are also great because they will get a bed warm before you climb in to go to sleep. Not many people like climbing into bed when its cold. They are not very expensive and are worth what you pay for them.</p>
<p>You also shouldn&#8217;t put an electrical blanket on a baby because it could cause them burns and unlike an older child they cant tell you if its hurting them. So, by the time they cry it could already be too late. Also, make sure you keep an eye on the wires of your electric blanket and make sure they are not getting bare. If you have exposed wires you shouldn&#8217;t use your blanket anymore.</p>
<p>You take a risk at getting electrocuted if you do not make sure that your wires are covered on your blanket. To be safe you should get a new blanket every year. Even if you just use it ten hours a day for two to three months.</p>
<p>If your blanket fails to work, don&#8217;t try to fix it yourself. Make sure to go get a new blanket so that you don&#8217;t have a fire. The company cannot guarantee your repair work. If you follow the guidelines then you shouldn&#8217;t have to worry about any kind of malfunction.</p>
<p>You can get them in so many different colors and so many different stores sell them. They are very easy to find especially during the holidays. And if you wait until after Christmas you can get them on sell. So it shouldn&#8217;t be hard to find your favorite. And as long as you read the directions on how to use your electric blanket and follow the guidelines and rules then you should not have any problems with your blanket.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We have all suffered from bouts of sleeplessness at one time in our lives but for many people, sleeplessness has become the norm more than the exception. Sleeplessness causes unnecessary exhaustion and has some serious implications to our health that are hard to ignore.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been trying to overcome sleeplessness and haven&#8217;t had much success, don&#8217;t give up yet. Other than forcing the little sheep to jump over the fence and popping that sleeping pill into your mouth, there are other ways you can use to overcome sleeplessness and take a trip to dreamland.</p>
<p>Just follow these simple steps:</p>
<p>1. Regularize your sleeping habit. Your body is more prone to following a certain pattern if you set a regular rhythm. Try to establish a certain time for sleep and then go to bed on the same time each night. Set your alarm on the same time everyday, too, regardless of whether it&#8217;s a weekday, a weekend or a holiday. Once your body recognizes a given pattern, it will follow your initiative and give in. . 2. Avoid alcohol before bedtime. It&#8217;s best to develop a sleeping habit without resorting to outside triggers. Let sleep come from within and not as a result alcohol or pills. The increase in the number of people becoming addicted to sleeping pills is alarming. They are very addictive.</p>
<p>3. Keep away from stimulants. Coffee is great for breakfast but it&#8217;s a bad idea to drink a cup a few hours before you go to sleep. Coffee and other stimulants like tea, nicotine or chocolates can keep your body feeling active and wide awake, so best to take them early in the day and avoid taking them before bedtime. Take warm milk instead.<span id="more-1695"></span></p>
<p>4. Exercise early. If you&#8217;re getting regular exercise, it&#8217;s best to do it in the morning or at lunch time, not just before going to bed. Exercise helps stimulate the body, keeping you feeling refreshed and active long into the night. If you must perform a few exercises, keep to breathing and stretching routines that are slow and rhythmic.</p>
<p>5. Don&#8217;t force it. Thinking about sleep will only make you lose sleep. If you&#8217;re having trouble with sleeplessness one night, don?t try to push yourself into falling asleep because you&#8217;ll only end up upset and anxious.</p>
<p>If your mind refuses to rest, get up and do some light chores, read a boring novel or practice light tai-chi. Avoid stimulating yourself too much and perform the activity until you feel tired and sleepy.</p>
<p>6. Keep daytime snoozing to a minimum. Studies have shown that 15 minutes of light naps are as restful as one-hour naps. If you must rest during the day, try to keep sleeping time short and don?t do it just a few hours before your actual bedtime. When your body has had enough rest, it is energized enough to go on for longer hours, sometimes for the rest of the night, depriving you of much-needed regular sleep.</p>
<p>7. Keep your bedroom as a place for sleeping. Try to minimize putting in stuff that relates to work or other activities in your bedroom. Keep your files, documents, sports equipment and other work/play implements in places other than your bedroom so that you&#8217;ll learn to recognize it as a place to rest and sleep, not a place to work in to finish that yearly report, send e-mails, correct presentations or fix the racket.</p>
<p>8. Keep distractions away from the bedroom. Try to keep your bedroom nice and quiet. Block out the noise by using thick curtains or carpeting. You could buy earplugs or an electronic device that produces white noise or other pleasant sounds that block away the sounds of traffic, outside music or voices. Keep lights from disturbing your sleep by keeping curtains, blinds or shutters closed.</p>
<p>9. Keep your bedroom clean and your bed comfortable. Nothing spells utter sleeplessness better than a cluttered, dirty bedroom. Keep it tidy and well-ventilated, making it conducive to good night&#8217;s sleep. If you can&#8217;t sleep without extra pillows, it can&#8217;t hurt to have three or four in bed with you. If you have a preferred mattress firmness, then by all means buy the one that helps you sleep better. You can only overcome sleeplessness if you&#8217;re comfortable in bed.</p>
<p>10. Induce sleep through relaxation techniques.This is the same method that hypnotists and meditation specialists use. Use self-hypnosis or progressive muscular relaxation techniques. You can either do this while in bed or sitting on a chair in your bedroom. When your mind is relaxed and peaceful, it&#8217;s much easier for your body to give in and fall asleep.</p>

<p>Insomnia is not a disease and no test can diagnose it; but when you can&#8217;t sleep well, it often has to do with some other cause.</p>
<p>Those who suffer are <strong>40 times more likely to be depressed</strong> than ordinary sleepers and it is said to affect people who are divorced, widowed, or separated rather than those who are married.</p>
<p>For many the <strong>sleepless nights start after a sudden unexpected stress event</strong> such as a job loss or death in the family.  So yes, it is very common in psychological conditions such as depression or anxiety. <span id="more-1710"></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sleep apnea can cause night time breathing to become erratic; shallow or stop completely for anything between 10 and 120 seconds. These sleep apnea symptoms, along with snoring, are caused by blockage, either completely or partially, in the airway.  This is brought on by an obstruction in air flow through fatty tissue in the throat or neck or by the uvula (the small dangling tissue at the back of the throat).  Oxygen levels drop suddenly, resulting in breathing arrests, and this can occur several hundred times throughout what should be a normal night’s sleep.</p>
<p>Untreated sleep apnea can lead to Type 2 Diabetes; weight gain; absent-mindedness or memory problems and incidentally poses a real risk for drivers who are unaware that they are sufferers, as extreme exhaustion can result in falling asleep behind the wheel.<span id="more-2032"></span></p>
<p>According to Dr Naresh Punjabi of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, even an average level of sleep apnea can increase a person’s risk of mortality, with the highest correlation with sleep apnea and cardio vascular disorders being among men between the ages of 40-70.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sleep apnea can cause snoring; shock awakenings; gasping when sleeping; above all, it can cause a sufferer to experience extreme exhaustion during daylight hours as a result of having a poor sleeping pattern. <p>During this process, the patient will be asleep for around six hours and wake feeling they slept hardly at all or even feel they did not sleep for any time – in fact, they will have been asleep but the sleep experience will not have produced a satisfactory rest.</p>
<p>For patients who are found to be displaying the symptoms of sleep apnea, a CPAP mask will be provided for them to wear at home.  The masks are available in different styles and can be used while travelling.</p>
<p>The sleeping quality that is achieved with a CPAP mask can make the difference between developing a variety of serious health issues and living a healthy life, enjoying a restorative sleep each night.</p>

However, children might also be at risk of sleep apnea.</p>
<p>Sleep apnea, or OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) is a sleeping disorder suffered by 18 million Americans, most of whom are unaware they have a problem as 90 – 95% of sufferers remain undiagnosed.  The symptoms night only manifest in excessive snoring but also those who have sleep apnea will experience extreme fatigue during daylight hours as a result of a poor sleeping routine.<span id="more-1782"></span></p>
<p>The condition develops as a result of poor airflow and reduced oxygen levels.  The sufferer experiences several hundred short pauses in their breathing pattern throughout the night, rendering them exhausted during daylight hours. The symptoms for children are remarkably similar to those for adults, with increased snoring; headaches; high blood pressure and possibly heart and lung problems.</p>
<p>During a sleep apnea experience, the airway narrows or closes completely.  Oxygen levels drop dramatically and breathing stops for between 10 and 120 seconds, on sometimes hundreds of occasions throughout the night.</p>
<p><strong>Diagnosing sleep apnea in child</strong> sleeping routines can be different to adults.  Although it is not uncommon for children to snore, the type of snoring produced within sleep apnea is louder and with extended pauses; not in the least like the usual gentle snoring produced through healthy sleep.</p>
<p>Children who are suffering with sleep apnea will typically be unable to gain weight or even lose weight.  They will possibly breathe only through the mouth during sleep and their sleeping routine will be restless.  They may display flushed cheeks from time to time throughout the night and their daytime behavioral patterns will be fractious with a poor performance at school: they will probably be unable to achieve a satisfactory homework routine.</p>
<p>African American children are more likely to develop OSA than Caucasians. Although boys are just as likely as girls to have childhood OSA, by adulthood double the number of men have the condition than women. Children with Down’s Syndrome are more likely to develop OSA and should be closely monitored.</p>
