Five Natural Hair Loss Remedies You Should Consider
Many people are justifiably concerned about hair loss. Men have at least a 50/50 chance of experiencing some hair loss as they age, and one in four women suffer pre-menopausal hair loss, increasing to one in three after menopause. If the currently available drugs concern you, then consider these five natural hair loss remedies.
Massage. Hair growth is rooted in the follicle, and massage can stimulate the follicle by increasing blood flow to the area. Although a hand massage is preferred due to the added personal touch, some companies offer a line of electric head massagers. Add a drop or two of lavender or bay essential oils to the scalp for an aromatherapy approach.
Vitamins. Taking vitamins for hair loss is an easy pill to swallow for many people searching for natural hair loss remedies. Which ones should you take? Some vitamins in particular seem to promote hair growth, including. Omega-3 fatty acids, all of the B-vitamins, protein, iron, biotin, whey, casein, vitamin A and vitamin E, zinc, iron, calcium and selenium. Great choices include salmon, nuts, dark leafy green vegetables, ground flax seed, legumes, poultry, whole grains, carrots, oysters and low-fat dairy, all of which contain vitamins that your hair will love.
Herbs. Herbal concoctions claiming to increase the health of your hair are abundant. Men and women often have differing causes for thinning locks, and a natural hair loss treatment for women may or may not be as equally effective for men. Many name-brand shampoos include some of these ingredients.
* Saw Palmetto – this extract was used as a traditional medicine by Native Americans. *Warning* Women on birth control or on hormone therapy should not take Saw Palmetto Extract.
* Nettle Root – extracted from the Stinging Nettle, this is said to inhibit the hair follicles’ negative reaction to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a condition linked to male pattern baldness.
* Jojoba Oil – a waxy liquid from the seed of a Southwestern shrub, this oil can clean the shaft of excess sebum build-up, creating an optimum scalp environment.
* Aloe Vera Gel – fans claim that Aloe Vera re-grows hair simply by topical application to the bald spot.
Folk remedies. These are certainly unconventional, but are made from food ingredients readily available in many areas. Many of them provide the needed ingredients which promote healthy hair follicles and hair growth. If you are allergic to any of these, please don’t use them without consulting your physician first.
* Drink one cup of juiced lettuce and spinach.
* Eat three to nine grams of Psoralea seeds (a Chinese bean).
* Mix coconut oil and lime juice, apply to the scalp.
* Apply coconut milk all over the scalp.
* Make a warm paste of honey, olive oil and powdered cinnamon; apply to the scalp; leave on for 15 minutes; wash and rinse.
* Make a paste of ground fenugreek seeds and water; apply to the scalp; leave on for one hour; wash and rinse.
Common sense. Kindness goes a long way towards healthy hair. Never brush wet hair; use only a wide-toothed comb. Avoid chemical relaxers, dyes or permanent waves, and go for loose styles instead of tight ponytails or braids. Towel dry gently, and avoid curling irons and blow-dryers.
In short, there are as many natural hair loss remedies as there are reasons for hair loss, and every head of hair is unique, so always consult your doctor before beginning any treatment. Finding a successful natural approach will take patience and a willingness to try unconventional methods, but you may be rewarded with a lifetime of healthy hair.
