EFT & Psycho-somatic Problems

What may heal the wound that was inflicted by a fire onto a flesh

Yet what may never heal is a scar inflicted by a tongue onto a soul

-The Sacred Kurral

Physical pain and wounds heal with time but emotional hurt doesn’t heal easily. If your hand has been burnt by someone, the wound will heal but what may never heal is the hurt inflicted by the person who burnt your hand. The physical pain will be gone after sometime but the emotional pain will remain. These emotional ‘hurts’ are lodged in our memories and make us wince whenever we think of them.

However, there is one thing that can be changed now with EFT; the healing part …the ‘scar by tongue’ can also be healed now with EFT!

Holistic Care For Back Pain

Many of us suffer from back pain and serious health problems associated with back pain, compounded over many years, while others may only deal with limited back pain, with the occasional flair up or strain. Many people still have prolonged back pain, no matter what they seem to do about it. They buy back pillows, ergonomic chairs, change their posture, get massages, even take up yoga, but they still are confronted with back pain. If you are one of these people, then you are not alone, as the true cure for back pain might be finally within our grasp.

Doctors and chiropractors for years have tried to come up with treatments, and cures for back pain, but have had varied success. It has only been recently, in the latter part of the 20th century, that people started to take more of an interest in holistic medicine to treat their everyday symptoms. This basic premise has led many practitioners to pursue holistic treatment options for patients, especially for back pain, to find a more complete method of treatment. Through these grueling years of study, observation, and trial and error, they have developed a comprehensive treatment for back pain, called Visceral Manipulation Therapy. Read more…

Osteoporosis and Back Pain

Those who suffer from osteoporosis will know the constant dangers they face everyday. Extra care must be taken by the sufferer to prevent the falls, knocks and stumbles that wouldn’t bother an average healthy person, but can often result in fractures or breaks to the bones of a person with osteoporosis.

With osteoporosis, the bones of the body lose their density and strength, resulting in them becoming more brittle and easier to break. It is quite often seen as a disease of the elderly where shrinkage of the spine occurs, and the person quite literally seems to shrink, sometimes very rapidly. The typical ‘dowager’s hump’ is the excessive curvature of the upper part of the spine resulting from the collapse of the spinal column, which is caused by osteoporosis. Read more…

Sitting and Back Pain

Today’s fast paced society does not lend itself to taking much time for your health and fitness. Most people wake up, get in the car for a long commute, sit at work for eight hours, get back in the car to go home, and then sit on the couch until they go to bed. This complete lack of movement on a day-to-day basis is not only hard on our bodies, but it also de-trains correct movements of the body. Sitting is so detrimental to our bodies in many ways. Considering that most people sit for the majority of the day this presents a HUGE problem. These are just some of the ways that sitting can make you un-fit:

* Lack of ‘perfect’ posture puts excessive forces through your spine
* Causes ‘muscle amnesia’ and weakens important muscles
* Can alter the curvature of your spine which leads to many problems
* Reduces blood and nutrient flow throughout the body that keeps muscles and joints healthy

The first point is really important to understand. Sitting in poor posture for as little as 20 minutes can begin to stress tissues and cause functional abnormalities. Now, if you take the fact that most people sit with poor posture the entire day this excessive force is being absorbed by many tissues that are not equipped to handle it. This leads to shortening of some tissues and lengthening of others. Your body adapts to this position of poor posture because it must sustain it for long periods of time. Once this change occurs it completely affects how your low back functions. If you sit 80% of the time that you are awake how can you expect your body to move properly when you want it to be active? Amputation of The Leg

The amputation of a leg is a major happening for a person and represents an upheaval in their life, with psychological problems added to the difficulties of learning the rehabilitation, the management of the new prosthesis, and the relearning of ambulation. The surgeon’s plan will be to manage the process to allow the patient early access to rehabilitation, reduce their energy requirements in walking to the minimum and allow them to manage the prosthesis successfully. Many new skills have to be learnt such as mobilising without the new limb, checking the skin pressure areas and managing to get the limb on and off.

A skilled and experienced team is required to teach the patient all the knowledge and skills they need for maximum independence and this includes the surgeon and his team, the medical advisers, the prosthetist, an occupational therapist, the physiotherapist and employment and social facilitators. Lower limb amputations are increasing as the populations of industrialised countries continue to age and with that the main reason for amputation, peripheral vascular disease. The ratio of below knee amputations to above knee amputations has changed as surgical skills for keeping the knee joint have increased, leading to the present occurrence of 70% below knee.
