Traditional Orthodontic Braces Vs Invisible Braces, the Invisalign
Dental braces or orthodontic braces are a tool used to align teeth position with regard to a person’s bite. They often come with brackets and wire fixed to teeth to make them straight and also used to correct the under-bites, overbites, cross bite and open bites or crooked teeth which are called malocclusion ( mal-uh-kloo-zhun), a word that comes from Latin and means “bad bite.” Malocclusion is a word that dentists use to describe the shape of your mouth. So, by applying braces, the condition of your mouth and jaws are now reshaped. The braces with brackets and wire is now a trend for young people who normally have non-aligned teeth position.
Invisalign?
Invisalign is a series of clear aligners used to straighten teeth. Ask your orthodontist about them. It is also called invisible braces, inside braces, lingual braces or ibraces. The Invisalign aligners are clear and hardly visible to others compared to metal orthodontic braces with brackets and wires. The Invisalign aligners are made after the orthodontist takes impressions of your teeth and send them to dental lab and make a unit of clear aligners according to your teeth alignment using computer. When ready, the first set of clear aligners will be fixed to your teeth. With the orthodontist guidance, you will move to the next set of clear aligners within a couple of weeks. For info, the number of Invisalign aligners sets will depend on the individual dental condition and the orthodontic problems. So, be ready to see your orthodontist regularly and set aside some budgets too. Read more…

At Home Teeth Whitening Products – My Story
I am a late smoker, as I was in my late twenties when I first picked up the habit. I am also a coffee addict. The result is probably as you guessed it: yellowing, discolored teeth! I am also not fond of going to the dentist. I would go when I really have to, but normally, I would just make sure that I am taking care of my teeth by brushing, flossing and using mouthwash regularly.
But when I saw how discolored by teeth had become, my immediate reaction was to buy some advertised at home teeth whitening products. I spent a fortune on them, and I was thinking that the price would ultimately work out to be more reasonable than actually going to the dentist. But boy was I ever wrong!
The first at home teeth whitening product that I used would be the whitening toothpaste. I was thinking that it’s easy to use, and it’s just a matter of me switching to another brand of toothpaste. I waited for a few days to see the difference, but impatient that I am, after three days, I decided to switch to another product for teeth whitening at home. This time, I tried whitening strips.
Since the whitening strips would actually be applied against the teeth and would be left on for a period of time, I was thinking this would be the best solution to my teeth discoloration problem. I was excited in using the strips, but I did not really follow the instructions accurately. I wanted to maximize the strips’ effectiveness, and left them on for much longer than the instructions indicated.

The Process of Getting Dental Implants
Consultation
Before receiving dental implant surgery, patients will want to go in for a full consultation. It is highly recommended that you see an implant specialist for the consultation, as they will be the most highly qualified. Your dentist may specialize in implants, be sure to ask before making the appointment. During the consultation, you will be examined to be sure dental implants are the right choice for you, and some x-rays or prep steps may be made.
Bone Grafting
This step is not necessary for most patients. In order to place the implants, a healthy jawbone is necessary to fully integrate the implant. If the patient has lost many teeth and their jawbone is less healthy than it should be, a bone graft may be required. During the bone graft process, a specialized professional will take bone from another part of the body and add it to the jawbone. Other bone alternatives could also be used.
Compromised Teeth
If the patient has any non-performing or compromised teeth, they will need to be pulled before the procedure. A regular dentist, or the doctor performing the surgery can do this. Read more…

Caring for your Dentures
Your dentist will recommend dentures as an option for replacing missing or if the current state of your natural teeth are beyond restoration.Several brands of denture cleaners are available.Partial dentures are used when one or more missing teeth are in either the upper or lower dental arch.Your bone and gums shrink over time, especially in the first six months after the extraction of the teeth.Because of this, dentures require daily cleaning.
Complete dentures are used when no remaining teeth are in the upper or lower dental arch. This is necessary to relieve any pressure points on the gum tissue that may be causing you pain or discomfort, smooth any rough spots, and at times allow for the proper fit.Improper denture care will trap bacteria under the denture, causing irritation of the tissue and may cause mouth sores and lesions or thrush, an oral yeast infection.Because of how dentures are constructed, speech may be affected for the first few weeks of wear.A reline is a procedure that reshapes the denture to your dental arch by adding more acrylic material to the denture. The different types of complete dentures include overdentures, immediate dentures, and conventional dentures.Talk to Your Dentist If you are unsure if dentures are right for your situation, make an appointment to discuss the treatment options that are right for you.If you are a candidate for dentures, your dentist may decide to refer you to a prosthodontist; a dentist that specializes in the replacement of missing teeth, or denturist, who is a formally trained and licensed professional that takes the necessary steps in order to fabricate customized dentures. This may cause your dentures to become loose, causing them to click together when talking or eating, slip off the arch during activity, or if very loose, fall out of your mouth. If you are having problems with pronunciation, try reading the newspaper aloud to practice your speech. They are designed to replace all the teeth in the dental arch. At war with dentists and doctors
Dental & Doctor’s visits — What a pain
Now being disabled and wheelchair bound brings its own challenges but my latest visit to my dentist and my doctor proved to be a work of transportation and manoeuvring par excellence. Firstly let me explain that for the past year all transferring from wheelchair to toilet or bed has been carried out with the aid of a mobile hoist. As a result of my last fall I haven’t walked for a year.
Now, the doctor’s visit was the easiest as we arranged for him to carry out his investigation into my state of health at my home. So I was duly hoisted onto my bed for the inspection. Blood pressure, ears, nose and throat were all inspected and found to be in working order. This was done with the doctor and my wife scrambling all over me and the bed to get access to the selected orifice. Read more…

Your Dentist Can Gift You a Dazzling Smile
You may remember the fear and nervousness that you felt, whenever you had to visit a dentist as a kid. At the end of the check-up, the dentist would give you a huge smile and ask you to brush your teeth regularly if you don’t want to come back often. There have been a few changes in that routine, since now people no longer go for a dentists’ appointment with fear in their hearts or because of a medical emergency. A dentist’s visit can be short and painless with the introduction of sedation dentistry. Moreover people are visiting dentists for cosmetic improvement rather than medical treatment.
A visit to the dentist can help you in checking the health of your teeth while also suggesting some cosmetic improvement if necessary. A dentist at West Palm Beach Florida once described how he does a regular dental check-up. First the tooth surface is checked for plaque, which also tells him when was the last time you had brushed. Then he proceeds to check the teeth for any cavities or bad tissues. Finally he will check for any irregularities that might cause tooth problems at a later stage. Read more…
