Can Full Spectrum Light Therapy Cure My Depression?

If you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD for short, the answer is yes, full spectrum light therapy can absolutely relieve you of the symptoms of seasonal depression. How can light cure depression?

In very scientific terms, full spectrum light covers the electromagnetic spectrum from infrared though ultraviolet. In plain English this means all of the wavelengths that are useful and necessary to plant and animal life. Sunlight is full spectrum, and by now we all know how important sunlight is in sustaining life on this planet.

It hasn’t been until fairly recently though that research has shown the role sunlight plays in brain chemistry. Full spectrum light controls our biological rhythms and is known to regulate the delicate balance between melatonin and serotonin. So what happens in the fall and winter to make us feel so off?

During fall and winter months, when sunlight tends to be scarce north of the equator, many people experience Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is the lack of light which causes an imbalance in brain chemistry, leading people to feel depressed and lethargic. Full Spectrum Light Therapy has been used for years to treat seasonal depression. Social Interaction and Depression

A depressed person is often socially deprived due to certain misconceptions prevalent in society. Society considers a depressed person as a threat to it and avoids being victimized by the errant behavior of the patient. Even the family members and peer groups show a tendency of avoidance. They usually keep a fair distance from the patient and don’t really bother about the complexity of the situation.

This sort of social deprivation leads to the construction of an animistic mindset of the patient. This negligence further adds to the unpleasant and unrewarding behavior of the patient. The person develops self-rejection due to profound unhappiness. In the course of protecting themselves from the patient, people undermine the needs of him. They usually don’t realize their duties towards a dejected person. Perhaps some people do provide monetary support to them but monetary support alone won’t make a mark. Positive Interaction and proper caring is also required in the same proportion. Read more…

Treat Seasonal Affect Disorder With Light Therapy

For some people, fall means going back to school and buying cute boots and sweaters. For others, fall means that old familiar depression is right around the corner.

Seasonal Affect Disorder, or SAD for short, affects millions of people in this country. Some sufferers don’t even know they have SAD, they just assume they get the “winter blues” every year. But SAD is a very real condition that has garnered much study and research by the medical community.

Without getting too technical, Seasonal Affect Disorder is caused by the decrease of light in fall and winter months. Sunlight, which is full spectrum light, actually plays a key role in our brain chemistry. Sunlight helps to balance the levels of Serotonin and Melatonin. When these levels are off, we’re off. The dangers of the pain killer Demeral

Demerol is a drug that is intended to be used to alleviate and reduce moderate to severe pain, which means there is a huge market for people who would take this form of medication. Pain relief is the key reason for taking medication but quite often people are not taking the correct dosage levels or not even taking the right form of medication to help their problem. This can cause a great number of difficulties and it is not uncommon for people who take pain killing medication to end up with a greater number of problems after taking drugs than before they took them. One of the major reasons for this is due to the fact that pain killing addiction is extremely high and is one of the major problems for people around the world today.

One of the biggest problem areas for Demerol users comes with the impact it can have on their breathing and respiratory health. Breathing is clearly one of the most important human functions, it is impossible for a human being to function without it and therefore, any drug which impacts on a humans ability to breathe has to be questioned. The positive impact had by this drug may be totally overtaken by these problems and this definitely gives any user a problem to consider and deliberate over. Read more…

Depression and Acne on Teens

Dealing with acne does not start with skin breakout and ends with topical ointments that purport to treat this problem. It can be said that this skin problem is cyclical, as it affects the totality of persons’ life especially during the teenage years. Since our society nowadays view physical appearance to be of most importance, having a face and neck full of blemishes and breakouts become a major problem especially among teenagers. And by sheer coincidence (and some would call it misfortune) studies said that skin breakouts happen just in time when individuals are supposed to be enjoying and having the time of their life – the teens. Experts say that this is because of the sudden surge of hormones, thus causing a hormonal imbalance.

And since this particular stage in a person’s life has a great effect in establishing their individuality and establishing themselves, a face with blemishes becomes a very serious deal. High school students have these to say with regards to acne: Jessica Nichols, a senior student at Idaho Falls High School, said that having blemishes on her face caused her to just stay in the house and would not want to go out and to talk to anybody because she feels that she looks like crap. Another student, Kimberly Turnbow, also from Idaho Falls High School, said that having acne on her face makes her understand why other kids opted to just stay home and avoid the public eye. According to her, acnes make her feel that she does not look good and because of this, she would just cry. Read more…

Side effects of the pain killer Codeine

Codeine is a pain-killer that is extremely popular with a great number of users around the world and there is no doubt that there is a legitimate reason for people to use and take this form of medication. There is a huge problem with pain-killers though in that people can become quickly addicted to them and find that their benefits wear off over time. This is because the user will quickly develop a tolerance to them meaning that if the user wishes to experience the same feeling they had when initially taking the drug, they need to take a higher dosage to do so. Any drug which encourages a higher level of use on a growing basis carries a great number of dangers, both in the short-term and long-term.

The short-term dangers of over using pain-killers are that people can fall into a dream like state where they are unable to respond quickly and become sheltered to what is actually happening. This numbing of the emotions is obviously attractive to people who are experiencing troubles or difficulties in life but it can also be very dangerous as they do not know when they are experiencing pain. This may mean that people do not seek medical help when something occurs, which can be very dangerous and could ruin a persons life in the long term. Read more…

End Depression, Anxiety and Other Mood Disorders and Insomnia through Reiki, Visualization, Meditation, Spirituality and Positive Thinking

Depression, anxiety and other mood disorders are at epidemic levels in the United States. So is insomnia. The good news is that you can end the devastation of these illnesses when you heal and cleanse your energy healing. Through energy healing, you will ultimately improve your brain chemistry and achieve peace of mind and an internal sense of well being, joy and balance. If one’s energy body is not clean, intact and vibrant, no medicine will heal your depression, anxiety and other mood disorders or insomnia. It will stabilize your symptoms (and that is important), but it will not be enough to heal you. You must do the work with Reiki and energy healers to release stored negative energy from traumas and stress and become a positive thinker filled with peace and joy. You must do the work to learn to establish boundaries, build self love, self confidence and self esteem and stop generating negative energy through negative beliefs, thoughts, acts and speech. To be mentally and physically healthy, your aura, chakras and meridians must be free of negative energy. Chi energy (the energy of life) must flow freely through your energy body without blockage from negative energy. This takes work. This can only be achieved through a combination of Reiki and other types of energy healing and ongoing spirituality, positive thinking, positive beliefs, positive speech and positive acts, not intentionally harming or deceiving others. self-love and a positive mind-set. As a Reiki master and life coach, I have focused on healing depression, anxiety and other mood disorders and insomnia with energy healing and techniques designed to protect one’s energy body. These techniques include visualization, meditation, establishing and maintaining boundaries, handling stress factors in a positive way, avoiding negative and toxic people and mind control. These techniques enable people to be fully engaged in each precious moment of life with full presence, participation and joy. These techniques enable people to rid themselves of painful and negative memories and rid themselves of stored anger and hate. They teach people to consciously identify and stop negative thoughts and rid energy attachment to negative and toxic people. I have taught people how to generate high vibration positive energy through meditation and visualization techniques. This high vibration positive energy shakes off, burns off and repels low vibration negative energy. I have taught people how to establish reasonable boundaries and change their mindset from negative to positive. I the end, we all must love ourselves first and foremost. This requires us to make our own peace of mind, peace of spirit and joy for life our number one priority.

Mood disorders are a problem of brain chemistry. But the problem of brain chemistry is caused by energy starvation and blockage. Chi is not able to be freely drawn in and distributed through one’s energy body because it is blocked and drained by negative energy. A person’s energy body is drained and blocked by negative and toxic people and negative energy primarily generated from our own negative thoughts, acts and speech and our own negative and impulsive reaction to stress factors. Negative energy is also generated by a poor self image. Visualization and meditation techniques along with positive affirmations must be used to build up a person’s self-love, self confidence and self esteem. These techniques must also be used to rid oneself of guilt and shame. Everyone has an energy body and a physical body. Our energy body is invisible to most. It animates our physical body and gives our physical body life. Some call the energy body our spirit. Our energy body is attached to our physical body. It includes an aura that surrounds us and protects us from negative energy (negative energy is low vibration energy that is the primary cause of illness), as well as chakras (spinning energy axles with energy wheels on both ends that go through our energy bodies) and meridians (energy channels that are the energy equivalent to veins and arteries). A good mental and emotional state requires a clean, vibrant and healthy energy body, free of negative energy blockages and energy attachments. Good mental health requires the positive interaction of brain chemistry and life force energy. These energies must interact properly for a person to be balanced and free of depression, anxiety and other mood disorders and insomnia. What goes on in our minds not only reflects brain chemistry, it also reflects the health of our energy bodies and the ability of our energy bodies to easily and automatically draw in and distribute life force energy for our use and for our health. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Sandwiched Boomers

For the past 25 years, October has been designated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You’ll find races to run that raise funds for research. Stores will be selling everything from mixmasters to ipods in pink. In fact, pink ribbons will be virtually everywhere. What does this focus on early detection and recovery mean to you?

If you are over 40, have regular screening mammograms and perform monthly breast self-exams. And see your physician for an annual breast exam and consultation about risk factors and additional diagnostic steps to take, such as MRI. With early detection, most breast cancers now can be successfully treated. There are between 2 and 3 million American women living today who have survived breast cancer and are thriving. Yet, as many survivors have learned, the process of coping with any serious illness can take its toll – emotionally and physically. These 7 tips will help you manage your recovery so you can move forward with your life:

1. Accept your changing emotions as normal and give yourself permission to express them. After a brush with cancer, it’s normal to experience many different feelings, such as anger, fear, anxiety, depression or stress. Talk openly with those you trust and acknowledge these feelings to yourself. Only then can you begin to cope with them. Read more…

ECT Shock Treatments A Personal Account

During my first admission the doctor told me that he believed that ECT might be good for my situation and he said I should go forward with it. I replied that is good what the heck are you talking about? ECT is Electro Convulsive Therapy or shock treatments and when he said this all I pictured was the scene from “One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest” so I was not exactly thrilled with this suggestion but the mental place I was in at the time was eating me alive so I said what the heck thinking I would just pull out at a later date if things became to hairy.

First things first they need a second doctor to check you out to make sure that you are a good client for this treatment. The guy met me and a minute later he stamped his sign of approval. Then they get you to watch the movie on how the procedure works and what to expect, it is not a pretty picture but I was really glad to find out I would not be conscious for it. How it works is your brought down to the room where they give you a combination of meds, then you are told to bite down on this piece of rubber and then you breath the sleeping gas until you fall asleep a few moments later. There are two types of ECT one is bilateral which is they put two pads on each temple and the second is unilateral where both pads are on one side of your head. There are a number of people in the room and they each grab a limb then the doctor nods his head and a short blast of current is passed between the two pads putting your body into a convulsion. There are apparently good convulsions and bad convulsions determined by the time they last, the positive one I believe is somewhere over thirty seconds or so. Read more…
