Things to Consider in Choosing Wheelchair Cushions

Wheelchair cushions are made of varying materials. Choosing wheelchair cushions involve the individual’s physical needs, daily activities and issues in transportation.

· The cushion must provide superb pressure relief. People who are confined in their wheelchair are prone to developing pressure ulcers due to limited movement. The wheelchair cushions must be able to distribute body weight evenly on the surface. And likewise, it must be able to redistribute pressure away from the pressure areas. The material used in the cushion determines this characteristic. So, the material has to be stable and specifically must have custom contoured foam.
