Mistakes to Avoid on the Treadmill – Part 1

Regular workouts on a treadmill are fantastic for getting good quality cardio exercise. If you really want to maximize the benefit you get from treadmills you should learn to avoid some pretty common mistakes. By achieving the correct posture for example you avoid many possible injuries and unnecessary stress, your walking will be smoother and go for longer.

Never get on the treadmill while it’s moving at full speed. The correct way is to have one foot on each side of the belt and start the treadmill moving at a slow speed. Once you are on board you can gradually increase the speed. Take the time to notice where the emergency switch to stop the treadmill is located. It’s often indicated with a red light.

Something so simple can seem like silly advice but really you’d be surprised at how many people have injured themselves trying to step onto a treadmill incorrectly. Usually they have been surprised by underestimating it’s speed or the sudden jerk when it first begins to move. Read more…
