Herbal Remedies – PMS Symptoms

Over 70% of American women experience PMS symptoms at some point in life. So let’s beat it the natural way!

• Dandelion: This herb is a diuretic (rids body of water) and as a result, helps relieve bloating associated with PMS. It also cools and cleanses the liver (which is actually the organ that affects irritability & anger)
• Ginger: This herb can help to improve blood circulation in the body which will result in lessening the risk of PMS caused by not having enough oxygen and the occurrence of blood stagnation in the reproductive organ.
• Stinging Nettle: Stinging nettle is often suggested for PMS as a result of its toxin-ridding activity. It acts as a restorative remedy during menopause.
• Valerian: Good for relieving menstrual cramps
• Dandelion Leaf: Reduces high estrogen levels.

Herbal Remedies – Menstrual Cycle

• Dang Gui: This keeps the blood moving correctly to support the female organs and decrease the painful cramps that happens during the menstrual cycle.
Preparation: 1/2 to 1 cup of the herb for 1 each cup of water; simmer for 30-40 minutes
• Stinging Nettle: the astringency that the herb provides combats excessive menstrual flow.
• Red Raspberry Leaf Tea (A WINNER!)- Red Raspberry decreases menstrual bleeding, bloating, relaxes uterine and intestinal spasms, and strengthens the uterine walls. If taken a few days before and during the menstrual cycle (2-3 servings a day), you will notice that you will feel less bloated, and experience less pain.
Preparation: Use 1 bag with 4-6 oz. of boiling water, and allow it to steep for at least 3-5 minutes. Squeeze bag, and enjoy! Tea has a bit of sweetness to it, and is enjoyable, even for a raspberry hater like me!

Tips When Using Bacterial Vaginosis Natural Cures

People are sometimes blinded by fancy advertisements as far as medical cures are concerned, especially with bacterial vaginosis (BV). Many individuals think that it is better to take antibiotics to cure BV. The problem with antibiotics is that it is not something that chooses which bacteria to kill. Antibiotics kill even that good bacteria found in the vaginal area that is also very much needed by the body. As a result, the BV will just re-occur if you have stopped taking the medication. Ultimately, you will find out that bacterial vaginosis natural cures are the best way to go.

One of the most trusted bacterial vaginosis natural cures is apple cider vinegar. This is a very string type of vinegar that is used on the skin to provide relief to BV. However, its strength is enough to cause burns on your skin so direct application is not really recommended. What you need to do is to mix one cup of the vinegar to one tub of water and then soak yourself in it. Soak yourself for at least 20 minutes and you will feel relived. You will also notice that as you do this everyday, the BV will also go away. Read more…

Are We Really What We Eat?

According to a 2001-2006 government health survey of approximately 3,000 children who’d been given blood tests, at least 20% of children aged 1 to 11 don’t get enough vitamin D. That puts them at risk for weak bones, infections, diabetes and some cancers. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children have 400 units of vitamin D daily. Because many children don’t drink 4 cups of fortified milk a day or eat lots of fish or spend enough time outside to get vitamin d from the sun, vitamin D supplementation is recommended. It’s the D parents will want their children to get.

According to both nutritionists and scientists, Americans have a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids. They are called essential fatty acids because they have to come from our diet – our bodies don’t make them. Omega-3 is necessary for the development of a healthy brain. It also lowers the risk of heart disease, arthritis and cancer. It even fights wrinkles. Fish like salmon, tuna and halibut are rich in omega-3 fatty acids because they eat microscopic, ocean plants and seaweed. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in the green leaves of plants. That they originate in fish is a fish story. Read more…

Working Out While Pregnant

It’s recommended by most experts that pregnant women maintain a regular exercise schedule. Of course, the range and intensity of the exercises you may perform while pregnant is limited. After all, the most important thing to do is to make sure you don’t put too much pressure on your growing baby. That said, there are a lot of exercise options still open to you during pregnancy that can help you stay active and healthy.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Never put too much pressure on your body. Over-exerting yourself can lead to serious problems. When exercising, your heart rate should remain under 130-140 heart beats per minute. If your body overheats, it can damage your baby, so exercise in moderation and keep well hydrated at all times.

If you’re used to lifting weights and doing aerobics, even before you became pregnant, you can still continue doing so as long as you lift less weight amount and lessen the intensity of your aerobics routine. If you’re not used to lifting weights or doing aerobics, don’t start during your pregnancy. Remember to talk with your physician about what you should and shouldn’t do before you start any kind of exercise program during your pregnancy. Read more…
